About Us

Veerni Sansthan is based in the Jodhpur district (also known as Marwar) of western Rajasthan. It is a semi-arid region facing frequent droughts and harsh climatic conditions, with very limited natural resources. It is the repository of a rich Indian desert culture with some traditions that may not be in harmony with current trends of modern society. Though the city of Jodhpur has shown commendable economic progress, the adjoining villages have been left behind. Veerni’s goal is to ensure that the social value systems of Marwar villagers are not compromised while transitioning to more progressive living conditions. It is time for the women who have been deprived of opportunities to take their destined roles in the changing world.

Veerni Sansthan was established in 2015 under Society Registration No 278/Jodhpur/2015 dated 2nd March 2015 as a not-for-profit organization, with the aim to educate and empower adolescent girls from poor villages in the desert areas around Jodhpur so they can lead healthy and productive lives free from poverty & coercion.

Our philosophy comes from the overwhelming discrimination of women and girls particular to this area of rural Rajasthan. The Thar Desert has little contact with the outside world, villages have been closed and hostile to outside influences, due to the power of males in the villages and the culturally conservative values held, even by Indian standards. It was apparent that the depth of discrimination towards rural girls in health and literacy was highly discriminatory. Thus, focusing on programs to improve the status of females and their rightful place in society drove this approach – backed up by international research on education as the fundamental vehicle for relieving both poverty and discrimination.

Veerni’s philosophy and policy is not to discriminate against race, ethnicity, religion or class. We seek to break down traditional discrimination amongst castes in our school community in order to stop the inhumane treatment of these now called Scheduled Caste & Tribes.
