Veerni Boarding Program
A girl’s boarding facility with private school will be established in Jodhpur to access a formal senior secondary education system. The girls that board at the Institute will provide with all the support they need to complete their secondary education.
The longer term aim that the girls would continue into higher education and gain future employment. This institute will cater 70 girls.
Activities
The girls that board at the Institute will follow the secondary school curriculum. This will includes a choice of three different academic streams: Arts, Science and Commerce. This is in contrast to most rural secondary schools where Art is the only subject taught, thus limiting the girls’ options for the future. In addition, girls will attend sports programs as well as computer training. Their health, nutrition and counselling needs will also be in the program.
Upon completion of their senior secondary education and the Balika Institute, the girls will be encouraged to consider college education.
- Examples of specific activities will organize at the Balika Institute :
- Health camps will organize on a regular basis. All girls will be screened on arrival for general health and particularly anaemia, a common problem among young girls in India due to poor nutrition and general neglect. The nurse will provide sessions on hygiene.
- Tuition classes : The girls will receive additional help with their school work. For the younger girls in the lower classes, the objective will be to ensure that they will able to follow the curriculum as they come from village schools where the education is poor. For the older girls, the tuition is important to help them pass their exams in Mathematics and English.
- Sewing Classes will be conducted regularly at the Balika Institute.
- Art Programs will organized to the girls who enjoy being creative. The Institute will be organizing an art competition on time to time.
- Writing & Drawing Competition : The Institute will be organizing an art competition on time to time.
