Mission
Veerni Sansthan’s mission is to provide young women from the rural region of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan with quality secondary education in a safe, supportive environment. We believe that by giving these women access to education, health, and work, we can empower them to become more independent and confident, thus enabling them to participate responsibly in their community.
Objectives / Goals
- To develop and expand hostel accommodation for rural girls to access school, safely and continuously
- To finance girls' attendance to the best quality secondary schooling
- To provide health and psychological services to optimize personal development
- To provide ongoing financial support and mentoring to Veerni graduates to complete tertiary studies and further training
- Provide a range of ancillary personal development training opportunities :
- IT
- Photography
- Social media
- Creative arts and crafts
- Provide village based primary tutoring to enable successful transition of girls into secondary school
- To enable villages to eliminate the cultural practice of child marriage
- To facilitate mixing of castes in the hostel
The context is of extremely low rates (41.6%)of literacy for girls in rural Rajasthan (compared to 59.5 for Rajasthan as a whole , discrimination of girls in access to health and education, the widespread (though illegal practice) of child marriage where girls are forcibly married as young as 5 years old; and the added discrimination towards lower caste girls.
